Professional Journey
Active in student governance and cultural committees throughout her university years, Maria combined academic distinction with an early commitment to cultural life, presenting award‑winning ceramic works at the North Carolina Ceramics Conference in 1991. On returning to Cyprus in 1992, she founded a private educational institution dedicated to the visual arts, laying the groundwork for a career that would bridge practice, education and consultancy.
In 1998 she co‑founded Kivotos Luxury Lifestyle, the house through which much of her subsequent advisory, art and design work has been channelled. In 2004 she was appointed as an Art Educator by the Cyprus Ministry of Education and, over sixteen years at St. Barnabas School for the Blind in Nicosia, played a central role in establishing the school’s Art Department.
During this period she authored the school’s dedicated art curriculum, integrating art‑therapy principles and carefully developed creative adaptations for visually impaired and deaf‑blind students. In 2020 she resigned from the Ministry of Education and she went on to establish the Museum of Art and Design, an institution with a distinctly inclusive and educational mission, devoted to expanding access to art and design for a wider public.

In 2017 her work Agape was auctioned for €10,000 at the 11th Cyprus–Russia Gala, with the proceeds directed to children with special needs and their families. In 2018 she was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by the Cyprus–Russia Gala and the Radiomarathon Foundation in recognition of her philanthropy through art.
